Carlos Sainz's Ferrari explodes into huge flames in chilling scenes during the Austrian Grand Prix

The car came to a stop on the outside of turn four but caught fire moments later. Fire was seen spreading to the body, inches away from Sainz who was still in the car, frantically signaling for fire crews to save the car.

Sainz jumped out of the car unscathed moments later and clipped a dejected figure to the side of the track. The Spaniard was stalking Max Verstappen on fresh tires and it looked like a second place seemed a certainty.

The Ferrari driver expressed his frustration on team radio when his car let go of him, shouting: "Engine, engine, no, no, no, no."
