Chelsea view Premier League boss as 'desirable eventuality' to replace Graham Potter

Chelsea would have eyed Brentford manager Thomas Frank if Graham Potter was shown the door at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are tenth in the Premier League despite spending almost £600m on new players since the end of last season and a Monday report claimed Potter was on thin ice.

The former Brighton manager reportedly played two games - home games against Leeds and Borussia Dortmund - to save his job.

That report was later dismissed by The Guardian, with Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital still saying they wanted to give Potter time to turn things around.

They are aware of the difficulty of adding so many new players to the squad and "their ambition since the start of this poor results streak has been to give Potter the next summer to benefit from a pre- season, a recalibration of the squad and the addition of striker Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.

They are also said to "like the calm way Potter goes about his business" and don't want to tear up their plan after building a structure around him.

But Football Insider says Frank is seen as "a desirable emergency option and is now one of the best candidates to be the next manager".

The report states that "Frank's style of play, his relationship with the media and his track record of developing young players into Premier League stars have been identified as strengths by the Stamford Bridge board ".

Frank signed a contract extension in December last year, committing him to the club until 2027.

His side Brentford are currently ninth in the Premier League, four points ahead of Chelsea who have won just two of their last 15 Premier League games.

Last season was their first in the Premier League and they are punching well above their weight with one of the smallest budgets in the top flight.

Potter's job is safe for now with the owners continuing to support him, but Chelsea fans were less patient (and obnoxious) with Potter revealing on Friday that he had received emails from him wishing death, as well as his children.< /p>
