Chelsea are close to unlocking a deal to allow the striker to join the European giants after being 'greedy in negotiations'

Chelsea striker Hakim Ziyech is reportedly set to join Ligue 1 giants PSG before the January transfer window closes on Tuesday night.

The striker hasn't been able to reach his full potential in the Premier League since joining Chelsea in 2020 from Ajax for around £36million.

The 29-year-old has failed to score in ten league appearances for Chelsea this season. Some suspected he could become his after starring for Morocco at the World Cup.

But that hasn't happened and he is looking to leave the Blues before the end of this month.

Speaking last week, Fabrizio Romano suggested Ziyech was 'too expensive' for AS Roma and Everton.

"The transfer market is now in its final days and Chelsea are likely to be the busiest side in the last of the transfer window with plenty of moves possible for the Blues," Romano said.

"Hakim Ziyech is on the list of many clubs as a last minute opportunity, as Everton and AS Roma have requested the Moroccan star but it is too expensive for the Italian club at the moment.

"The race is on, Chelsea will decide the future of Ziyech and Conor Gallagher later this week while Newcastle are more focused on Everton's Anthony Gordon than Ziyech as their primary target for the job, in the current state of affairs."

PSG have since become the most likely club to sign Ziyech. French outlet L'Equipe reports that he is "pushing to convince" Chelsea to let him join the Ligue 1 side.

The player has "had his medical examination", but his transfer to PSG is not yet complete as Chelsea are "hungry for negotiations".

Ziyech is ready for the move to happen and he has 'let it be known' to the Chelsea hierarchy that he wants the transfer to go through. It's even gotten to the point where he's "interfering in the talks".

A separate report from Romano revealed on Tuesday night that Chelsea and PSG are "close to unlocking a deal".

Romano notes that "details are being discussed in order to get him signed." The player has reportedly received offers from other clubs but he "only wants PSG".

Dean Jones previously told GiveMeSport that the transfer talks had "not gone smoothly".

"Hakim Ziyech at PSG was a complicated negotiation that was not smooth. As for the player himself, he is ready and willing to sign.

"I've been told he really cares about it, to be honest. Having been linked with Milan, Everton, Newcastle and West Ham, he has the chance to play with Mbappe and Messi - so obviously he wants let it happen."
