Chinese boots could storm Taiwan's shores in the next 18 months and are already preparing for it, US defense officials have warned.

According to US intelligence sources, the Red Army will invade the self-governing island for a year and a half between two elections - the National Congress of the Communist Party of China meeting in November and the US presidential election in 2024.

>

Beijing will deploy its warships and launch an amphibious assault on the island if it is unable to reunite with Taiwan's leadership through political means, two former senior intelligence officials believe.

>

One of the officials told Fox News, "We have always had and have always been aware that China has an ever-present and ever-evolving plan for an amphibious assault and military invasion of Taiwan.

"If they cannot reunite politically, they will do so by force."

It says "indefinite" information indicates the window will be within the next 18 months.

Last year, former commander of US forces in the Indo-Pacific Adm. Philip Davison provided a six-year window for the invasion.

“The window is now between the Party Congress and the next US presidential election,” a separate Trump administration source said.

Rather than 2027, the official believes it will take place before January 2025.

Many analysts believe that the domestic situation of each rival superpower will likely determine the date of invasion.
