County Championship: Lancashire overtake Hampshire for first win of season

Dane Vilas beats for Lancashire
LV= County Championship Division One , Southport (fourth day) Hampshire 142 & 371: Vince 87, Middleton 77; Balderson 3-84Lancashire 374: salt 103; Organ 6-63 & 142-4: Vilas 64*; Abbas 2-30Lancashire (22 pts) beat Hampshire (3 pts) by six wickets Match scorecard

Half a century by Red Rose captain Dane Vilas led his team to a first County Championship win of the season before lunch, taking Lancashire's unbeaten record in the competition to 14 games in the last 12 months.

Lancashire take 22 points from the game to move to 68 in six games and advance their Championship ambitions. For Hampshire, the loss and three points received sapped their title hopes, with 82 points in seven matches.

Starting the day 48-2, Vilas and Josh Bohannon successfully negotiated openings from Mohammad Abbas and Keith Barker before the two settled for more expansive play.

Once Vilas fumed Barker through the cover for four and Bohannon did the same with Felix Organ in the sequel, the result seemed like no no doubt, even when Organ choked Bohannon for a well done 37 from an edge to Vince on the slip.

Mitchell left for 14 at a glance at Abbas' leg caught by wicketkeeper Ben Brown, but Rob Jones (14 not out) hit three straight fours on Organ before Vilas hit the winners to finish unbeaten on 64.
