Glamorgan started the day needing 64 points to avoid the call-on and came close thanks to Chris Cooke's undefeated 51.

But Gibbon had debutant Ajaz Patel caught by 10 and Pennington had Michael Hogan caught in the middle of the wicket during 15, after hitting a straight six from Gibbon.

A downpour drove the players away at 11.25am BST and the referees called off the match at 1.50pm BST after further heavy rain.
