Facing his former club, the tailoring veteran repelled the years with 3-38 of 10 overs to help limit the White Rose to 167-4 in their first set, 257 runs behind.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore hit an unbeaten 68 against the team he will join next season, while Harry Brook was fired for 41.

The hosts started the day badly when Abell, n having added just two to his score, fell on second new ball, lbw to a Waite delivery that hit his back pad.

Gregory reached his half century with a four-point to Jordan Thompson's third man, after facing 87 balls and hitting seven fours.

Aldridge gained confidence in start and lifted 350 with an elegant back foot boundary off Thompson.

Gregory hit Bess for a straight six, but perished trying to redo the shot, being narrowly caught by Adam Lyth with a total of 376.
