Shan Masood starred against his former county with an unbeaten 95 from 112 balls , while a run-a-ball 41 not out from Dom Bess helped bring the visitors home after Dawid Malan fell to the first ball of the day.

Resuming 147-6, Yorkshire needed 65 when Mark Watt took down Malan but Masood and Bess played with composure to share an eighth wicket from 68 from 82 balls to win a thrilling contest.

The odds had turned in Derbyshire's favor when Watt struck with the first ball in the morning. Malan tried to paddle sweep the left arm spinner but only managed to make a simple catch of short-legged Matt Lamb.

With the balls lying low, there was little room for error, but Bess eased some of the tension by sweeping Watt behind the square for four before Masood caressed Alex Thomson to the edge of the cover.
