According to food bank Rabobank , production is up 26% from last year as trees, mainly in Western Australia and Queensland, mature. The resulting abundance - 22 avocados are expected to be grown for every Australian this year - has seen supermarket prices drop to $1 apiece and farmers are asking consumers to increase their consumption of avocados.

Undoubtedly the most popular of all avocado dishes - and now part of the fabric and tradition of Australian cuisine - is mashed avocado.
