Cunha deal becomes permanent as Weghorst move to Man Utd has unexpected impact on Wolves

Besiktas are interested in signing Wolves striker Raul Jimenez with Wout Weghorst set to join Manchester United, according to reports.

Weghorst's loan with the Turkish club is about to be terminated and Erik ten Hag is set to bring his compatriot to Old Trafford.

United needed to sign a new striker after Cristiano Ronaldo left in November.

Fabrizio Romano says Besiktas won't let Weghorst leave until they find a replacement, with Ronaldo's new Al-Nassr teammate Vincent Aboubakar being their main target.

The Italian journalist has since declared 'it's on' for the Dutch international to join the Red Devils, hinting that the Turkish side have a new striker lined up.

United will pay Besiktas €3m before signing the player on loan from Besiktas.

According to Fotospor, Besiktas is now preparing an approach for Raul Jimenez.

The report doesn't say anything other than that the Turkish side have 'looked into' Jimenez - who is a 'surprise attacker' set to replace Weghorst.

Jimenez and Mathues Cunha teamed up to score a fine goal in Wolves' Carabao Cup game against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Wolves signed Cunha on loan from Atletico Madrid earlier this month and have already activated the option to make the deal permanent.

Molineux's side will pay the La Liga giants more than £44million, with the player signing a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande claims the deal became permanent after Cunha reached the requirements agreed between the two clubs - for him to play three games.

Cunha was Julen Lopetegui's first signing since becoming Wolves head coach.

Speaking after Wolves lost on penalties to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, Lopetegui said: "My reaction is of course negative because we wanted to continue in this competition and I think we we fought hard to get it. It was a very difficult game for both teams.

"We started getting a goal from a corner, I can't remember another chance for them, and then after having two really big chances in the first half, we didn't score. second half, we tried to score, we scored a goal, but we had more chances.

“We changed things because they crossed a lot, but we scored a very good goal. After that, we had two or three very good situations. But in the end, it was a shame for the penalties, because that's how we lost this game."

The Spanish head coach continued: "I want to highlight the struggle of the players again, because we played three games away from Wolverhampton and we didn't lose, but we didn't win. We have to to win, especially today because it was a key game to continue in front and we have a great vision for the future.

"We fought a lot and it's a shame for our fans because they are there and give us a lot of support, so it was a shame for all of us, but especially for them.

"To continue, we have to improve some things. It's going to be a very hard and long race, and after today we have another very important game ahead of us, and we have to focus tomorrow on the next game. "
