King Charles will deliver his first King's Speech to Parliament on November 7.

Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt has revealed the date when the official opening of Parliament will take place as she briefs MPs on future parliamentary business.

Charles once delivered the Queen's Speech when his mother was unable to fulfill her duty. Parliament is expected to be prorogued - temporarily closed - in the days leading up to the ceremony.

The speech offers Prime Minister Rishi Sunak the opportunity to set out his priorities ahead of the general elections scheduled for next year.

Ms Mordaunt said: "I can confirm that the official opening of Parliament will take place on 7 November 2023. As usual, the current session of Parliament will be prorogued before the King's Speech and this time will be used to allow for logistical and security preparations for the official opening of Parliament.

"The likely extension date will be confirmed in due course."
