Bayern Munich have announced they have signed Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus.

The Dutchman signed a five-year contract and he joined Bayern Munich for a fee of around £68m.

De Ligt - who has recently been linked with Chelsea - told the Bayern website: "I am very happy to become a player for this great club.

"FC Bayern is the most successful club in Germany, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and the world.

"I felt a real appreciation from the sports management, the coach and the board from the start, which convinced me.

"On top of that, FC Bayern is a brilliantly managed club with big goals. I am very happy to be part of FC Bayern history now."

De Ligt started his career at Ajax and spent three seasons with the first team in Amsterdam.

He moved to Italy for £67.5million in 2019 and made 109 appearances for Juventus, winning a Serie A title, Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup during his time at Torino.

Bayern chief executive Oliver Kahn said: "Matthijs de Ligt has impressed at the highest international level, not only with his technical qualities, but also as a character who leads all his teams.

"At a young age, he has already learned to take responsibility.

"A strong team doesn't just require a strong attack, and with this signing we're really taking our defense to the highest level."
