Defense Secretary warns of China's Cold War by 2030 - and says Putin 'isn't done with us'

Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has raised new fears of a cold war with China and a confrontation with Russia before the end of the decade.

The outgoing minister has announced that he will step down in the next reshuffle - due in September - and that he will leave parliament in the next elections, scheduled for January 2025 at the latest.

Subjected repeatedly as a future Conservative leader, he twice dodged the party leadership race last year.

His hopes of becoming NATO Secretary General were dashed when US President Joe Biden refused to endorse his candidacy.

Instead, former Scots Guards captain Mr Wallace, 53, intends to stand down from Parliament when voters go to the polls, expected in autumn 2024.
