Disney+ launches Asia Originals Slate, led by 'Moving', BTS docu-series and 'Tokyo Revengers'

Disney+ has announced a slate of Asian originals for the second half of 2023, including Korean dramas< em> Moving and The Worst Of Evil and the latest project in his collaboration with Hybe, BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star.

Slate full of originals also includes Japanese anime Tokyo Revengers: Teknik Arc , part of Disney's collaboration with publishing house Kodansha, and the hybrid live-action and anime series Dragons Of Wonderhatch.

Korean drama Moving premiering August 9 webtoon on a group of super-powered individuals on the run from government forces and a mysterious assassin. Ryu Seungryong, Han Hyojoo, and Zo Insung are leading the cast.

Squid Game actor Ji Changwook Wi Hajun and Lim Semi star of the crime drama The Worst Of Evil, set in 1990s Seoul, where a rural policeman is recruited to help bring down a gang of traffickers offering a powerful new drug.

Docu-series BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star traces K-pop the journey of megastars over the past nine years, based on "unprecedented access to an extensive library of music and footage," according to a statement from Disney.

Disney previously worked with Hybe on a BTS concert film, BTS: Permission To Dance , and reality TV show, In The Soop: Friendcation. The new series is described as featuring "the daily lives, thoughts and plans of the members of BTS as they prepare for their second chapter".

Other Korean shows on the Disney+ list include crime drama Vigilante ; the comedy action series Han River Police; and the music-themed drama Soundtrack #2, a sequel to last year's Soundtrack #1, again directed by Kim Heewon but with a new screenplay starring Keum Saerok and Steve Sanghyun Noh.

Japanese drama Dragons Of Wonderhatch stars Sena Nakajima, Daiken Okudaira and Mackenyu in a fantasy tale set in a land where dragons and humans co-exist. The streamer's Japanese live-action slate also includes A City Without Seasons, about a group of people huddled together in temporary accommodation following a national disaster.

Anime titles besides Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku Arc include Phoenix: Eden17, produced by Studio4°C and based on the legendary manga Phoenix by Osamu Tezuka.

Later this year, Disney+ will launch a musical documentary series NCT 127: The Lost Boys, Japanese anime Synduality Noir and an ice show by Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyu. Titles in 2024 will include Koreans A Shop For Killers and Red Swan, and Japanese House Of The Owl and Murai In Love em>.
