British divers have found an American WWI shipwreck that had disappeared deep in the ocean ocean since she was sunk in 1917.

A team of experienced divers was able to locate the missing vessel 40 miles off the Isles of Scilly on Thursday.

USS Jacob Jones was one of six Tucker-class destroyers designed and built for the United States Navy before the country entered the First World War.

The impressive ship was the first American destroyer to be sunk by enemy fire.

It was torpedoed off the Isles of Scilly in 1917 by a subhusband n German.

With 150 on board, 66 men met their fateful end on December 6, 1917.

One ​​of the divers who took part in the expedition, Dominic Robinson, noted the significance of the discovery primarily for its historical significance.
