'Do yourself a favor and get a Polestar': Tesla owner says he was trapped in a Tesla Model Y

A Tesla owner tweeted Thursday that he was briefly trapped inside his Model Y Tesla after the car asked him to pull over.

"Safe to say the horror stories of @Tesla cars being dreadful seem true. A brand new fully loaded car just cut off the highway," wrote content creator and influencer Tom Exton UK-based Twitter. He is also co-founder of fitness brand LDN Muscle.

Exton told Insider he was driving his Model Y when he told him to pull over. He claims the battery was fully charged and he had only purchased the car five days earlier.

According to a Recode investigation in August, the Federal Trade Commission received approximately 1,000 Tesla-related complaints, and 120 of them "discussed specific issues with service, delays, and parts," wrote the point of sale. The company is also the subject of criticism regarding its online service.

Musk has also previously acknowledged issues with the company's production line.

In a tragic incident, a man was burned to death in his Tesla Model S after the car's emergency door handle malfunctioned, in connection with a lawsuit in 2019. Another driver, according to Futurism, claimed his Tesla Model S ran out of power and came to a stop in the middle of a six-lane highway.

Exton told Insider that shortly after pulling over, "all power to the car was cut off."

The company's emergency guide for first responders states that to open doors without power, there is a "mechanical release handle located near the window switches."

So Exton tried that, he said, but it "kinda broke" the driver's side window. Then he had to wait more than two hours in the cold.

“There's a reason they've kicked out so many people with cheap leases. Do yourself a [favor] and get a Polestar. a Tesla," he wrote on Twitter.

Exton did not immediately respond to a request for comment via Twitter DM.

The contractor has contacted Tesla for comment.
