A London doctor who spent nearly a decade in training has left people stunned after posting his monthly payslip online.

Dr Souradip Mookerjee bravely shared his lackluster salary which left him with just over £1,600 for the month, despite exorbitant London rents and skyrocketing bills.

It comes as thousands of junior doctors voted to step down this week in the latest round of NHS strikes.

Members of the British Medical Association (BMA) have overwhelmingly opted for back-to-back strike action over pay, with plans for a 72-hour strike which could take place as early as next month.< /p>

Dr Mookerjee tweeted his final payslip in late January as he revealed he was voting for the strike.

His total sum to live for the month in London was £1,671.47 after paying over £1,000 in taxes, national insurance and his student loan.

The average cost of rent in London last year was £935 a month, up 22% on 2021, according to rental site Spare Room.

The young doctor wrote: "[M]y salary as a doctor in London working 40h weeks after 9 years of university in Cambridge and a doctorate".

The doctor, who has also won awards for his research papers on genetics, palliative care and patient safety, studied at this world-class institution from 2013 and graduated the year last, while also having obtained a doctorate during his studies.
