Dominic Raab: I have a 50/50 chance of keeping my seat in the next election

Dominic Raab thinks he has a "50/ 50" faces losing his seat from Esher and Walton in the next election.

Mr. Raab has held his Surrey seat since 2010, but in the last election three years ago he barely managed to fend off a Liberal Democrat surge by a few thousand votes.

The Home Secretary Justice, who has backed Rishi Sunak in the Tory leadership race and is unlikely to retain a Cabinet post under Liz Truss, told the Sunday Telegraph: 'I think it's a 50/50 race here."

Mr. Raab also dismissed speculation that he might give up the marginal seat for a peerage, telling the newspaper: "First of all, I can tell you, I don't want to go to Lords at any time in my career. I can rule out that."

He said he would campaign to retain the seat, but also said the next administration should "steer the country through the inflation crisis".

"You have to have those two things," he said.

"A strong headwind national in your favor and a strong local campaign. I can only personally guarantee one of these two. I'd like to contribute to both."

He also said he "doesn't expect" to be offered a job at a Truss firm

"I don't m don't wait, if Liz is prime minister, we offer her anything,” he said. “Especially given the briefing.

But he also suggested he wouldn't turn down a role, if offered: "Why would I do it?" I'm an adult.
