Edinburgh Fringe: In search of the next success after Six successes

A number of hit shows and comedians have started performing for small audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe. Could the next big show appear in a seedy place right now?

In 2017, a group of college students put together a musical imagining the wives of 'Henry VIII as a 21st century girl group in a hotel conference room at the Edinburgh Fringe.

"There were 80 or 100 seats or something. Really low ceilings, I remember," recalls theater producer Andy Barnes.

"I was in it after the first song. I walked out right after and walked up to Toby [Marlow], the co-writer, and said, "I definitely want to put our hat in the ring to get involved".

< p class="ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00">Five years later, Six: The Musical is a hit in the West End and beyond, and Marlow and his co-writer Lucy Moss have won the prestigious Tony Award for Broad way for Best Original Score in June. scale may be rare, but over the years Edinburgh has given a number of shows a successful life beyond the Fringe.
