England stars react to five-star win over Northern Ireland in Euros - 'I enjoy every game'

Two England stars have reacted to their five-goal win over Northern Ireland in their final group game of this summer's European Championships.

The Lionesses had already booked their place in the knockout stages of the Euros before their third group match.

They beat Austria 1-0 in their opener at Old Trafford before beating Norway 8-0 in a record victory.

The English are superb but they are all white: Why? And should this be "fixed"?

Hours before their clash against Northern Ireland, it was announced that England coach Sarina Wiegman had tested positive for Covid-19.

The 52-year-old was absent from the dugout at St Mary's, but her players got by without her.

Northern Ireland frustrated England before the break but the hosts took the lead in the 41st minute. Fran Kirby opened the scoring before Beth Mead made it 2-0 before the break.

Kelsie Burrows scored an unfortunate own goal after Alessia Russo scored a quick brace.

The 5-0 win means England end the group stage with 14 goals scored and three clean sheets.

Wiegman's side will now face either Denmark or Spain in the quarter-finals of the competition next Wednesday.

Russo said after the Northern Ireland win that she "enjoys every game" she plays for England:

"I enjoy every game in an England shirt and it's great to come and score. I just came to the right place at the right time and was able to put it in the back of the net," said Russo (via BBC Sport).

"I should have finished that last one but we'll move on to the next game. I watched Ian Wright's goals this week and maybe that helped me. Obviously I want to play every game for the next game. 'England, but I know I have to be patient."

Kirby also reacted after the match, saying she was "really happy" to open her account for the tournament:

"I wanted to score a goal throughout the tournament and I got into good positions, but that didn't happen for me. Luckily today I was in the right place and I had good contact on the ball and it was one of those you watch to see if it goes in, so when it happened I was really happy to open my account.

"We talked before the game about having a positive start, we felt our starts in the previous two games had been a bit slow so we wanted to make sure we had good possession of the ball and that we were taking care of it and i felt we did it even though the goal didn't quite come i'm just glad he got in and the ball got going and it just relaxed us and that we could play the game a little more."
