Eurovision 2023: Cardiff out of the race for the song contest

Cardiff has dropped out of the race to host Eurovision in 2023.

Officials said hosting the song contest would have meant canceling a "significant number" of other events next spring.< /p>

In a joint statement from Cardiff Council, the Welsh Government and Principality Stadium said it would not be possible to move forward .

The UK will host the competition after organizers said it could not take place in winning country Ukraine due to the war.

It comes after musicians and politicians backed calls for the Welsh capital to host the competition in 2023.

The council, the Welsh government and the stadium said Cardiff had a "very strong record of hosting major events", and the stadium would have been "a natural choice for such a large production".

But they said its complexity would have caused other events, such as the European Wheelchair Rugby Championships, to be cancelled.
