Former England striker Jonathan Trott named Afghanistan head coach

Since retiring in 2018, Trott has worked with England as a batting coach and at Warwickshire as an assistant coach.

The 41-year-old will take charge for the first time in August at of Afghanistan's tour of Ireland for a five-match Twenty20 series.

"I am honored and delighted to having the opportunity to accompany one of the most exciting international cricket teams through what is a huge year for their development as a team," said Trott, who has played 127 international matches.

Trott averaged 44.08 with nine hundred in his 52 tests, playing a key role in the ascent of England at the top of the world ranking and its vic ries at the Ashes in 2009, 2010-11 and 2013.

He also scored 2,819 points in 68 internationals of a day with an average of 51.25.
