F1 LIVE: Lewis Hamilton beaten by Sergio Perez in testing after 'unplanned' conversation with Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton found time earlier today to air his grievances over the FIA's plan to get rid of tire covers in 2024 after testing a new slick compound at Circuit Paul Ricard earlier this year .

The governing body has been phasing out tire warming equipment over the past few years, while Pirelli has worked to develop compounds optimized to operate without warm-up before next season.

Hamilton isn't a fan, however, and said, "I think it's dangerous.

"I tested the absence of covers and there is going to be an incident at some point, so for safety reasons, I think it is the wrong decision. You have to do several turns for the tires work.

"The whole argument is that taking the covers off is about becoming more sustainable and greener. In fact, we're just using more fuel to get temperature into the tires.

"The most worrying thing is just when you go out, the car is spinning, it's very nervous, and if there is someone else who has working tires, you could easily come into colliding with them. It's a useless exercise."
