Lewis Hamilton has said he "doesn't really care" what position he finishes this year, a comment that could have huge implications for how much prize money his Mercedes team takes home.

F1 constructors take varying shares of the total pot each season, with those who finish bottom of the Constructors' Championship standings earning considerably less.

He said: "I don't care what position I end up in this year. I'm just focused on trying to give the best development information for the team, working with the guys to m to make sure we're running this car the right way and when we start the first race or the first test next year, we'll hit the ground running.

"We have no rebound, we have the downforce we need and the car is efficient and we can keep up with everyone, that's my dream. So I'm looking further down the road. "
