A famous US Army division has deployed to Europe for the first time in 80 years.

The US Army's 101st Airborne Division - nicknamed the "Screaming Eagles" - has about 4,700 troops stationed and says it is "ready to defend every square inch of NATO soil".

Elite troops are currently stationed in Romania, which borders Ukraine on the Black Sea coast, a strategically important area as Russian forces attempt to push into the Kherson region.

Troops began arriving in Romania in June and have now begun conducting exercises in the region alongside Romanian troops.

Brigadier General John Lubas, the division's deputy commander, told CBS News, "We stand ready to defend every square inch of NATO soil.
