Fan dies after falling from stand during River Plate vs Defensa y Justicia game

June 5 – A fan died after falling from a stand at Argentinian club River Plate's Mas Monumental stadium during Saturday's game against Defensa y Justicia.

The match was suspended after 26 minutes and the site was evacuated following the incident. According to the club's report, there was no violence or third-party intervention.

River Plate said in a statement that "a fan jumped into the void" from one of the upper sections and "died immediately" during the first half of the match.

The club added that "no violent situation arose around him" and "within 30 minutes the stadium was completely emptied".

"The stand where the deceased had his subscription was at 90% capacity. At the time of the fall, there was no third party intervention. It was also found that there was no there was no violent situation in the gallery or around him."

River Plate added that local authorities are investigating the incident.
