Hosted by Nikki Glaser, the series followed three women as they chose a potential boyfriend from among a group of 24 men trying to identify which contestants were "f-boys", which were only there to have a good time, and which were "good guys" looking for love.

Cancellation is not a shock. The status of much of HBO Max's programming appears to be up in the air since the Warner Bros. merger closed. Discovery in April. This has been especially true for unscripted content, as the discovery side of the business has come up with its own prolific slate of unscripted shows. These series in production on the side of Warner Bros. appear to have created layoffs inconsistent with CEO David Zaslav's intense cost-cutting strategy. Zaslav has repeatedly pointed to the goal of finding $3 billion in synergy savings over the next three years, the victims of which have already included the near-completed "Batgirl" movie and solid chunks of HBO Max's back catalog. which were quietly removed over the summer.

In July, a WBD insider on the side of Discovery spoke to Variety an upheaval impacting the unscripted division: “There have been layoffs and there are fewer people doing more work. But I know most of the upheaval has been on Warner's side. In August, after 70 layoffs were confirmed at HBO and HBO Max, chief content officer Casey Bloys sent out a memo explaining how scripted programming would become the brand's primary focus, which "involves an honest assessment of what we we need to move forward".

Along with "FBoy Island," HBO Max's unscripted slate includes shows such as "Selena + Chef", "Legendary", "The Big Brunch", "Sweet Life: Los Angeles" and "Kraftopia". No unscripted series at HBO Max have been renewed since the merger.

"FBoy Island" was produced by STXalternative and created by Elan Gale. Gale produced for TheYearOfElan Productions alongside Jason Goldberg for STXalternative, Ben Bitonti, Glaser and Sam Dean, who also served as showrunner.
