FIFA bigwig and Mali FA president Toure arrested on suspicion of embezzlement of public funds

August 10 - A member of FIFA's Almighty Council has reportedly been arrested, casting further embarrassment on world football's governing body.

Malian Football Federation president Mamoutou Touré is believed to be in local custody for alleged embezzlement of public funds.

The Malian soccer strongman was apparently arrested on Wednesday after officially launching his campaign for a new term. He has been in power for six years, but faces a tough challenge from Salaha Baby

The Malian football administration has been in crisis for years and in 2017 the country was banned for six weeks for government interference.
