Gary Neville says Truss is 'taking Mickey away from us' with 'immoral' tax cuts for the rich

Gary Neville has called the Conservatives' tax cuts for the wealthy "immoral" and "madness".

The soccer legend has smashed plans to hand out billions to the wealthy as he prepares to make a star appearance at the Labor conference tomorrow.

In an interview with the Mirror, he said Keir Starmer as Prime Minister would be "a change that cannot come fast enough".

The former England international has accused Liz Truss of 'taking the absolute Mickey away from us' by helping the wealthy as ordinary families struggle to make ends meet.

In a mini-budget on Friday, Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng scrapped the top 45p rate of income tax, giving 660,000 high earners over £150,000 an extra £10,000 a year. It also removed the bonus cap for big bankers.

"People are struggling to pay their energy bills. I don't know anyone on over £150,000 a year who will think it's the right thing to do to give us more money," said said Gary.

"They want better public services, better health, better education, shorter wait times for doctors."

He will appear alongside Mr Starmer and Ghost Culture Secretary Lucy Powell at an event in Liverpool tomorrow afternoon where he will tell party members ‘now is the time to support Keir at 100%".

The former Manchester United star player joined the Labor Party as a member earlier this year but said he was 'not interested in a political career' as he would rather be a 'canon loose outside" than in Westminster.

He said he chose to attend the conference because he wanted to use his notoriety to speak out against what the Conservative government is doing.
