George Alagiah: Tributes paid to deceased 'fearless' and 'kind' BBC journalist

Tributes have been paid to BBC journalist and author George Alagiah, who died of cancer aged 67.

The BBC's chief international correspondent, Lyse Doucet, called him a "great broadcaster", a "kind colleague" and a "caring journalist".

Another correspondent, John Simpson, paid tribute to him, tweeting: "A kinder, kinder, more insightful and braver friend and colleague that it would be difficult to find. that Alagiah "was loved by all". "George was one of the finest and bravest journalists of his generation who fearlessly reported from around the world and delivered the news flawlessly.

"He was more than an exceptional journalist, the public could feel his kindness, empathy and wonderful humanity."

Alagiah has won numerous awards in a hugely successful career, which has taken him from Southern Africa to many other parts of the world, via the BBC News at Six studio.
