George R. R. Martin Thinks House Of The Dragon Will Run For Four Seasons

The Dance of the Dragons is the name given to the civil war that seems about to break out now that King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) has died at the end of episode 8. It's a long war , complicated and messy, and we haven't even really started it yet with what's been released. Everything has been configured so far. George R.R. Martin thinks that to properly cover everything that happens during this war, the show will need a full 40 hours to do so, writing on his blog:

"If 'House of the Dragon' had 13 episodes per season, maybe we could have shown all the things we had to 'jump through time'...even if it would have risked some viewers complaining that the series was too 'slow', that 'nothing happened'. is only 8, as you may have noticed, and my AMC show 'Dark Winds' is 6 seasons worth of episodes). Hope that continues to be true. It's going to be four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do the Dance of the Dragons justice, from start to finish."

Of course, George isn't exactly the best judge of how long it will take to get to the end of a story. The still incomplete "A Song of Ice and Fire" shows this well, but fortunately the whole Dance of the Dragons is in "Fire & Blood". He doesn't have to do a lot of guesswork. My only question about all four seasons is if it'll be enough to satisfy HBO's craving for "Game of Thrones" content. Only time will tell.
