George R.R. Martin warns that the latest 'Game of Thrones' novels are very different from the story on TV

"Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin has just clarified that his upcoming novels are "further and farther" from the events of his saga as depicted in the HBO television show which s ran from 2011 to 2019. The sixth and seventh "A Song of Ice and Fire" episodes are titled "The Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring", respectively.

“I worked in my winter garden”, . “Things grow… and change, as it happens with us gardeners. Things twist, things change, new ideas come to me (thank you muse), old ideas turn out to be unworkable, I write, I rewrite, I restructure, I tear everything up and rewrite again, I walk through doors that don't lead nowhere, and doors that open to wonders."

Martin joked that while his writing process “seems crazy, I know,” he can promise that his “gardening” will foster new story paths distinct from the TV show.< /p> Related Related

"What I've noticed more and more lately, however, is that my gardening is taking me further and further away from the TV series," Martin hinted. "Yes, some of the things you saw on HBO in 'Game of Thrones', you'll also see in 'The Winds of Winter' (but maybe not quite the same way)...but a big part of the rest will be quite different."

"Not all characters who survived to the end of 'Game of Thrones' will survive to the end of 'A Song of Ice and Fire', and not all characters who died in 'Game of Thrones' won't die in "A Song of Ice and Fire" (Some will, sure. Maybe most. But definitely not all.) (Sure, I might still change my mind this week next, with the next chapter I'm writing. It's gardening.)"

In 2019, he suggested something similar after the much-maligned finale: "How is this all going to end? I hear people asking. Same ending as the show? Different? Well yeah . And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes."

Martin has previously said he is fully focused on finishing the novel "The Winds of Winter" while spin-off show "House of the Dragon" debuts August 21 on HBO.

“Winter always comes, and 'Winds' remains my priority, as much as I'd love to write an episode of 'House',” Martin in 2019. As for the first season of “House of the Dragon,” Martin revealed that he was also deviating from “Fire & Blood.”

"For all the book fans out there, this IS my story. Of course, there are some changes from 'Fire & Blood' – we couldn't feature three alternate versions of every major event, not and keep our reason - but I think Ryan Condal and his writers made good choices. Even some improvements. (Heresy, I know, but being the author, I have a right to say it)," Martin explained. /p>

He also confirmed a series of "GoT" "Snow" sequels, starring Kit Harrington as Jon Snow once again. Winter is coming, indeed.
