German journalist confirms Liverpool interest in Bayern Munich starlet who is 'not for sale'

Liverpool are actually 'interested' in signing Bayern Munich and Germany teenager Jamal Musiala, according to Florian Plettenberg.

It was reported earlier this month by the Express that Musiala is a Reds target.

The Stuttgart-born youngster is apparently an alternative to Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, who Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing.

The race to acquire Bellingham is already in full swing, although he is expected to stay at Dortmund for the entire campaign.

His departure is likely to come next year, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also keen.

If Musiala is a genuine alternative English midfielder for Liverpool, it shows they are serious, as the Bayern playmaker would potentially cost Bellingham a similar amount.

While the Dortmund player is better in terms of ability and questionable potential, the former Champions League winners are likely resigned to the fact that they will lose him in 2023.

With Musiala on the other hand, Bayern don't need to sell, probably have no intention of selling, and the player is already at one of the biggest and best clubs in the world who will likely win the Bundesliga for the next 20 years.

Of course, Liverpool is an attractive destination, especially for Musiala given that he grew up in England and played for the Three Lions at youth level before deciding he would represent the senior Germany side .

Musiala is a versatile midfielder who can operate behind the striker, on either flank or as a No8.

Speaking last year, Germany boss and the man who gave the 19-year-old his Bayern debut, Hansi Flick, said: "He has an eye and a sense for picking the right spaces. He's very confident with the ball and can play well between the lines."

Musiala already has 17 caps for his country and is set to take part in the World Cup this winter.

He is a regular in Munich's starting XI under Julian Nagelsmann and had a goal and two assists at the weekend as his side ended a five-game Bundesliga winless streak with a 4 win -0 on Bayer Leverkusen.

After a little digression there, here's more on his potential transfer to Liverpool…

Plettenberg has claimed that the Express' report is in fact correct and that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the player.

He is not for sale and does not want to leave the German club, the Sky Sports reporter said.

Plettenberg wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: "News Musiala: Based on reports from UK: Yes LFC are interested in Musiala. Like any other big club in the world. But a transfer is not not a topic at this stage. He doesn't want to leave Bayern and he's not for sale as (Hasan) Salihamidzic mentioned at Sky."
