Ghana call on Chris Hughton to lead national team to AFCON qualifiers

February 13 - Former Brighton manager Chris Hughton has been appointed head coach of the Ghana national team.

The 64-year-old, whose father was born in Ghana, has worked as a technical adviser for the Black Stars since February 2022.

He replaces Otto Addo, who resigned after the World Cup in Qatar, where Ghana finished last in Group H with a victory in three matches.

This is Hughton's first managerial post since he was sacked by Nottingham Forest in September 2021.

He also managed Newcastle, Birmingham and Norwich before his five-year spell at Brighton, which he led to promotion from the Championship.

In his time as a player he was a defender for Tottenham Hotspur and the Republic of Ireland

"The Football Association of Ghana is pleased to appoint Chris Hughton as Head Coach of the Black Stars following lengthy deliberations between the two parties," the Football Association of Ghana said.
