Anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller has challenged Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin to a debate - in her own pub.

The True and Just Party leader challenged the pro-Brexit publican to debate returning to the EU in a letter.

"You've already said you have 'no regrets' about Brexit, a curious stance when so many of your customers are struggling with the cost of living crisis that immediately followed the exit of the EU," she wrote in the letter, seen by the Mirror. "You told your clients that Brexit was a path to 'democracy and free trade'. You need to tell them why you were wrong - or how you can still believe in this reckless business and the supposed benefits of Brexit. "

Ms Miller is standing in the upcoming elections in Epsom and Ewell – the seat of Chris Grayling – who voted Retain in the 2016 referendum. She suggested they stage the debate at the Assembly Rooms pub on Epsom High Street - a popular Wetherspoons pub in September or October.

Mr. Martin has yet to respond to the letter.

Ms Miller added: 'I believe there is no more defense against Brexit – the UK has tried, but leaving the EU has already proved too destructive an experience to risk continuing . It is time to restore the fortunes and security of the United Kingdom by returning to it. at the head table, helping to lead an economic bloc that has done so much to spread peace and prosperity across the continent and beyond. "

In July, Mr Martin told LBC radio that the price of a pint could rise to £10 as a result of our leaving the EU. But he said he has no regrets about his decision to leave.

He said, “Do I have any regrets? No, I think for humanity to survive, I think we need democracy. We need democracy in China. We need democracy in Russia, especially in the nuclear age - and my bones to pick. with the EU, is that the president is not elected by universal suffrage and that the European deputies cannot initiate laws and that the ECJ, the Court, is not responsible to Parliament. »
