Greenwich buys WW2 documentary 'From Where They Stood' from MK2 Films (EXCLUSIVE)

Greenwich Entertainment has acquired U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to Christophe Cognet's "From Where They Stood," a searing World War II documentary that premiered at the Berlinale.

>

Represented in international markets by MK2 Films, 'From Where They Stood' won the Spirit of Freedom Award for Best Documentary at last year's Jerusalem Film Festival.

Directed by Raphaël Pillosio, "From Where They Stood" retraces the steps of a handful of Nazi concentration camp prisoners who managed to clandestinely photograph the hell that the Nazis hid from the world. These photos were either smuggled or hidden and recovered after the war.

Edward Arentz of Greenwich negotiated the acquisition with Fionnuala Jamison of MK2 Films on behalf of the filmmakers.

"Unlike today, where fortunately evidence of war crimes and genocide can often be gathered remotely and disseminated around the world in startling detail and precision, the individuals who took these simple photos in black and white risked everything to try to break through the cloak of secrecy that shrouded the Nazi killing machine,” said Greenwich co-chairman Edward Arentz.

"Cognet offers a rigorous yet moving account of their courage and defiance in the face of totalitarian evil," Arentz continued.

The documentary had its US premiere at the New York Jewish Film Festival at Lincoln Center. The North American theatrical release will begin July 15 at the Film Forum in New York, followed by a tour of major US and Canadian cities.

Greenwich Entertainment recently partnered with Rialto Distribution to acquire Caroline Vignal's 'Mon âne, mon amant et moi', a French romantic comedy starring 'Call My Agent' star Laure Calamy.

The company was co-founded by Ed Arentz, co-founder and former managing director of Music Box Films, and Edmondo Schwartz, co-founder of Cohen Media Group, in September 2017 with the aim of managing top theater productions. of range. movies.
