Have you noticed the growing number of mango varieties for sale this year?

Among the well-known varieties Kensington Pride, R2E2 and Calypso is a new wave of mangoes with different colors and flavors.

Perfection Fresh launches Scarlet Delight and Hula varieties, which are currently grown on farms in the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland.

Managing Director Michael Simonetta said it was an exciting time for industry.

"This journey began over 10 years ago when we imported the original rootstock from Israel," he said.

"So this is our second year of semi-commercial production and we are still two or three years away from full production, but we are encouraged by their agronomic performance and their reception by customers ."

< p class="_39n3n">He said Scarlet Delight had dark skin, longer shelf life and unlike many other varieties, was ready to eat before the skin became soft.

"I describe Scarlet Delight as having an aromatic flavor and a taste that blends flavor notes of peach and nectarine," Mr. Simonetta said.

Other varieties on the rise include the Mahachanok, which is a long, sweet mango native to Thailand and grown by Tous Garden in the Northern Territory.

The owners have described her as the "Miss Universe of mangoes" and recently announced plans to plant thousands more Mahachanok trees.

Manbulloo Mangoes was that year given the marketing rights of three new varieties of mangoes developed under the National Mango Improvement Program (NMBP).

Manbulloo Managing Director Marie Piccone , hoped they would be successful in domestic and export markets.
