"He would be on the bench!" - Flamengo president snubs Cristiano Ronaldo and talks about Neymar 'dream' of

Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim admits it would be a 'dream' to sign Neymar but doubts his club's chances, while claiming Cristiano Ronaldo would be a bench player for the Brazilian side.

Neymar is set to feature for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar, where the South American giants are looking to end a 20-year wait to win the tournament for the sixth time.

The 30-year-old, who has spent nine years in Europe since leaving Santos for Barcelona in 2013, has an uncertain future with Paris Saint-Germain, who were reportedly ready to let him go ahead of this season.< /p>

Flamengo have been linked with a sensational move to bring Neymar back to South America, with Manchester United's Ronaldo also linked, but Landim believes such moves are highly unlikely.

"I don't know how much Neymar earns - I heard it would be almost 4 million euros a month," he said.

"If we consider this amount, he will not want to come to Flamengo considering what I can offer him, within the salary structure.

"He will have a better proposal from the outside. It's natural, it's the market.

"There are clubs with much larger budgets than Flamengo who will be interested in an exceptional player like Neymar.

"Having Neymar would be a dream for any club in Brazil, I have no doubts, but I think he will play outside of Brazil for a while because he is exceptional.

"The clubs that can pay the salaries of exceptional players like him are abroad."

Flamengo's president was also asked about the possibility of signing Ronaldo, but said he would only get a place on the bench.

He added, "I don't know where people get that from. They have a lot of creativity.

“Who would we sign him as a replacement? I want to ask you all: who would you remove from our team to play?

"I saw online, I don't know if it's true, he was reportedly offered $242 million for a two-year deal. If you take $242 million and split it per 24 months, that's about $10 million per month.

"It's way more than all of Flamengo's paycheck just for Cristiano Ronaldo to be on the bench while waiting for Pedro and Gabigol."
