Heels are on the rise and I'm ready to fall in love with them all over again. Literally | Jess CartnerMorley

I recently spent a week watching ladies fall. I hadn't planned to spend Paris style week this way but that's often how I don't forget it. Show after show, the moment that came to mind, playing the lower back loop, became a version dropping its stability and flipping, or clicking a heel and stumbling, or having to throw a few impossible shoes and maintain them in his hand while walking barefoot on the track.

At Vivienne Westwood's runway, this turned into exaggerated platforms that kept shoes out. A platform sole is a useful trick to include the top without tipping you forward at a dizzying angle. But as long as there is more than a thumb or platform, your reference to the ground disappears and you lose intuition for what part of your foot desires to take your weight, for stability.

Descending from a platform, a slender version staggered over a towering shoe, swaying in gentle circles like a bowling pin. For a moment she froze, after which one leg of Bambi collapsed beneath her as she hit the ground, just like Naomi Campbell did. naomi-campbell-catwalk-fall/" name="" records-link-call="in frame hyperlink">in 1993 Somehow there were more falls than a film by Laurel and Hardy.

Before that, I thought it was just me who forgot how to walk in high heels. Turns out even specialists are suffering. Walking in heels has nothing to do with a motorcycle. It loads more slowly, to begin with. It wasn't just the confinement that put the heels out of motion, but the long tail of events canceled and, for most of us, a new rhythm that worried the extra time at home, less galloping around town.

But the obituaries written the year last for the high heel now seems premature. Heels are on the rise again, both in real life and on the catwalk. The question is, is there a way to fit inside the saddle?

Incredibly obvious, this, but first of all: there is too much and there is perhaps too high. The heels you see on purple rugs are usually about 10cm tall. Hardly anyone can wear them in real lifestyles. Even an 8cm heel, which is common in many stores, is a massive demand. For me, 6cm is a lot - it looks and feels like a heel without risking ankle damage, so if you could erase through the heel-line (which you often can, if you fiddle with the knobs erase), do .

But heel height is not the whole. A shoe should fit snugly in your foot, without being too tight. Mules, in which the shoe essentially hangs off your feet, are the cryptic crossword puzzle of the global heel. As in, I don't even try them because they just make me feel bad. A back strap with an elasticated section is great for comfort, although you'll need a great shoemaker to update the elastic when it loses tension. Cute, textured socks - glittery ribbed socks or chic heather wool - make strappy sandals less difficult to put on, while still keeping you warm.

Oh, and one ultimate factor. You need to discover ways to walk around once again. In a high heel you have to take smaller steps than in residences, put your heel first and understand that your pace will be slower.

That's madness, isn't it? Why would we go there? Maybe you've decided to never wear heels again, in which case I applaud your smart choice. But there's something magical about the extravagant gesture of wearing a heel: the sorcery of the way it shifts your figure, the electrifying feeling of an evening pushed to its limits. Turns out I'm not equipped to ditch the heels in the end. I'm up for the mission. Although more ready to hit the deck.
