Honda overpaid employee bonus - and then asked for the extra refund
Big bonuses went wrong for a group of factory workers last week, according to NBC4.
Workers at the Honda plant in Marysville were given overpaid bonuses - then told to hand over the extra money to the company.
The company has confirmed the error in a statement to Contractor.
“Earlier this month, Honda offered bonuses to its associates, some of whom received overpayments,” said Chris Abbruzzese, a Honda spokesman.
“Compensation issues are a sensitive topic, and we are working quickly on this to minimize any potential impact on our associates,” Abbruzzese added.
But it's not easy to let go. The spouse of a worker who was asked to return part of his bonus - almost 8% - told the outlet that the amount was "you know, a car payment. It's half of our mortgage...that's two, three weeks of groceries. That's a lot of money for us."
In a memo sent to employees, the company gave employees the option to refund a portion of the bonus within nine days, by September 22, deduct it from future paychecks, or withdraw it future bonuses. p>
Honda, like other automakers, has had a tough year amid shortages and Covid-related supply chain issues, but its latest earnings report presented a more optimistic earnings outlook, boosted by a weaker Chinese yen, according to Bloomberg.
