A man jumped into the ocean to save his wife after a shark ripped off a piece of her leg in Florida.

Luke Bruns dived from their boat into the sea after Lindsay Bruns was attacked by the predator and left with a serious injury that ran from the top of her hip to above her knee.

The 35-year-old mother of two from Texas was on a break in the Florida Keys with her partner and two daughters, aged five and seven, when the chilling incident happened on June 29.

She was taken to hospital, where doctors are battling to save her leg, reports the Daily Star.

"All things considered, she's doing great," Luke said. "The trauma team is hoping for a full recovery," he added of Lindsay, who underwent 11 blood transfusions and three surgeries.
