There are concerns in Lusail, Qatar, after a massive fire broke out in the FIFA World Cup host city on Saturday. Clips have emerged on social media showing plumes of black smoke filling the sky as a disturbing fire broke out near the Qetaifan Island North supporters' village ahead of the day's matches.

Videos posted on social media on Saturday morning showed the village, filled with canvas tents, nearly engulfed in the thick cloud of smoke from the source. These aren't the first fan village issues to emerge in Qatar, with many complaining of unfinished accommodation at unreasonable prices.

Other facilities closer to the capital, Doha, have suffered air conditioning issues, among other issues, in metal container venues where fans pay upwards of £200 a night.

This is the latest in a series of negative talking points at the Qatar World Cup, as expected, after other fiascos involving short-notice alcohol bans and continued criticism of the country's attitude towards homosexuality and women's rights.

At around 10:00 a.m., officials said the fire started in a building currently under construction just a stone's throw from the village that hosts fans visiting Qatar for the winter showcase. Despite the chilling scenes, authorities also confirmed that there were no injuries at the scene and that Civil Defense brought the fire under control.

The resort town of Qetaifan Island North is expected to offer some impressive tubing and slides, but related struggles have piled up over issues surrounding this year's tournament.

With the fire now under control, Saturday's matches go ahead as planned, with Australia kicking off against Tunisia at 10am. Poland against Saudi Arabia, France against Denmark and Mexico against Argentina complete the line-up for the day.
