The husband of a French woman whose decapitated head was found abandoned in a Parisian park took six days to report her disappearance to the police, it was claimed today.

Assia Matoug, a 46-year-old married mother of three, disappeared on January 31 before parts of her body were found earlier this week.

They had been piled up in two garbage bags which were thrown in the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, a popular location for detective films and television series, including Emily in Paris.

The victim's husband, Youcef Matoug, who is also in his 40s, was reportedly so shocked that he did not approach the police until February 6 - Monday of last week.

"He was in shock and said he had been too overcome with grief to speak to police earlier," said an investigating source.

This happened as the murder investigation into Ms. Matoug's brutal death entered its fourth day, with no suspects yet identified.

Her mobile phone was switched off when she disappeared from her family home in Montreuil, the north-eastern suburbs of the French capital last month.

Mr. Matoug still said he was "in a state of great distress" as he cared for the couple's three children, aged eight, 14 and 17.
