Indonesian Thohir says DFL deal will make Liga 1 top league in ASEAN region

January 12 - Bayern Munich will play part of their pre-season preparation in Asia where they will face Manchester City in a friendly. Now the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga is building ties in the region with a collaboration agreement with the Indonesian FA (PSSI).

The MoU signed during a visit by PSSI President and former Inter Milan owner Erick Thohir focuses on two key areas: advancing technical and sporting expertise and advancing the league and club structures.

"Indonesia is Southeast Asia's most populous country and one of our most important markets, sharing Germany's fervent passion for football," said Peer Naubert, CMO of the Bundesliga International.

“The Bundesliga has been very active in Indonesia over the years, working closely with local authorities and partners to support the growth of football, with projects such as 'Bundesliga Common Ground Jakarta' and 'Bundesliga Experience Indonesia". We are delighted to formalize our commitment to Indonesia... and to further develop the Bundesliga's presence in Indonesia."

The new partners will conduct activities and training sessions, and collaborate in organizing joint marketing activities, to support these key areas, the DFL said.

Thohir has both performance ambitions and commercial ambitions for Indonesia's top league.

“This venture is part of our mission to elevate the Indonesian football league, aiming to become the premier football competition in Southeast Asia (ASEAN),” Thohir said.

"The collaboration with DFL aims to propel the sporting level and technical aspects of Indonesian football, setting off an upward trajectory of quality of play and competitiveness. This partnership has the power to revolutionize not only the sport itself, but also the development of our young players. While the foundations of the competition are strengthened by this agreement, professionalism will permeate crucial aspects such as the organization of the competition, the management of the stadium, the safety of the supporters and the granting of licenses."
