In Dortmund's 10 years without a title with Bayern 37-67 and £657m raised

Borussia Dortmund are poised to lift the Bundesliga trophy for the first time since 2012 with just a win over Mainz needed to clinch the title on the final day. The Blacks and Yellows have spent more than 10 years in the shadow of Bayern Munich, but everything could be about to change if they can cross the line. Here, Express Sport takes a look at what has gone wrong over the years as they finally look ready to shake off their long-lasting hoodoo.

37-67 Bayern goal

Winning the Bundesliga by beating Bayern Munich is imperative and something Dortmund have struggled to manage over the past decade. The club currently hold an aggregate score of 37-67 in all their matches against them since last winning the title with the Bundesliga score 52-23 in favor of the Bavarians.

The trend has been at its worst in recent years, with the Blacks and Yellows winning just one of their last nine games against the league's dominant force. However, for once that hasn't been a problem this season. Dortmund have performed quite well in their games against the rest of the league and it is this, coupled with Bayern's dip in form, that could finally see them win the title.

£657m raised

Another of Dortmund's major problems has been their failure to keep hold of their best players. The club have raised around £657million in player sales since last winning the league in 2012, meaning the team have struggled to gain any real momentum. Their net outlay also sits at around minus £78m for the period in question, highlighting their inability to replace departures with the same level of quality.

Perhaps an equally important issue was who to sell their best players to. Bayern made a habit of signing many of their best players towards the start of the period with Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels and especially Robert Lewandowski crossing the divide.

This pattern has come to a halt lately with the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland moving overseas instead. And with Bayern losing stars like Lewandowski this season, the Blacks and Yellows were able to make up the difference, leading the title fight to the final day with far less outlay.

Eight different managers

Dortmund have also struggled to find the right manager to take the reins since Jurgen Klopp was the last man to lead them to the title in 2012. The German again couldn't work his magic as many of his best players left for Bayern. many of those who arrive behind him do not reach the same heights.

There was also a real mix. While Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have won the Champions League since leaving the Westfalenstadion, others like Lucien Favre, Peter Bosz and Peter Stoger have struggled to find real success elsewhere.

Edin Terzic finally looks like the man ready to turn the tide. The 40-year-old is in his second stint as head coach after being the caretaker before Marco Rose's arrival can now make club history if he can lead his team to victory against Mainz.

The eyes of the footballing world will be on him on what promises to be a thrilling final day in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
