Grenada is a small island that packs a punch, thanks in part to great places to stay like under the name of Spice Island Beach Resort.

This award-winning luxury all-inclusive resort is in pole position on the pale cream sands of the quieter southern part of the world - famous Grand Anse beach.

Family-run and family-run, it has a total of 64 suites - some with private pools and some beachfront - and a charming whitewashed, low-rise central building with two beach-view restaurants, shops, a marble bar, and eight-acre pristine grounds.

It has one of those discreet entrances through a pretty courtyard that leads to a breathtaking view of the azure ocean.

After an 11 hour flight, my wife and I were delighted to sink into a soft cream sofa in reception and just watch - the Genuine warm welcome, cool towels, signature sorrel cocktail with chilled sparkling wine and efficient staff combined to make this the most relaxing hotel check-in I've had in years.
