Inside the Indian Ocean island, where a remote tribe will kill any strangers who come near

There are very few places in the world that are untouched by the spread of modern civilization. Whether it's roads, oil rigs or 4G networks, it's almost impossible to be completely disconnected.

This makes the most isolated tribe in the world, who live on North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal, all the more fascinating and remarkable.

However, as the saying goes, curiosity kills the cat, and anyone who came near the island - whether intentionally or accidentally - was attacked with spears and arrows.

Reports of natives rejecting outsiders date back to 1867 when British explorers were forced to repel attacks after being shipwrecked off the coast of the island and awaiting rescue.

In 2006, two fishermen were killed by Sentinels after getting too close to the island.

In the 1970s, a National Geographic director working on the Andaman Archipelago documentary was injured by a spear during filming.

Most recently, John Allen Chau, 26, a Christian missionary, was the most recent person to be killed after trying to make contact with the tribe in 2018.

After meticulously planning their excursion to the island, aware of the dangers, the tribe made no exception to their holy intentions, and a local fisherman watched from afar as her body was buried the next morning.

Despite multiple attempts by Indian authorities, adventurers, fishermen and filmmakers, the population of the island has totally rejected any contact with the outside world.

As a result, very little is known about the island and its inhabitants.

The island, which belongs to India, is about half the size of London, but its population remains a mystery.

Few photographs or videos exist.

Having been isolated for thousands of years, the population is vulnerable to diseases and viruses carried by outsiders and against which they have long been immune.

Therefore, international travel advisories to this region are not only intended to protect tourists from violence, but also to protect the island population from disease.

During his death, John kept detailed journal entries of his plans to convert the islanders to Christianity and his early attempts to make contact.
