Inside 'Best New Ski Hotel of 2022': Does the French Alps Property Deserve the Bell? We discover

Inside 'Best New Ski Hotel of 2022': But is British ownership in the French Alps REALLY worth the gong? We find out... Ted Thornhill checks in with his family at the recently opened Bear Lodge Hotel by VIP Ski in Les Arcs He says his room is "so close to the piste that we are practically within easy reach of passing skiers "The big ticket attractions are the 'excellent' pool and the 'great super comfortable cinema' Advertisement

Amid the blizzard of gongs handed out at the 2022 World Ski Awards, a recipient caught my eye – VIP Ski, whose Bear Lodge hotel in Les Arcs in France won the "best new ski hotel" trophy.

I see the company based in London through the lens of nostalgia, having enjoyed splendid snowboarding escapades over the years at his French chalets in Val D'Isère (Club Bellevarde, 2010), Morzine (Chalet Alaska, 2011) and Avoriaz (Chalet Poudreuse , 2017).

< p class="mol-para-with-font">In the latter, I had a room in the basement with no view but I still enjoyed it - thanks to the talent of VIP Ski for upbeat hospitality, comfort and good food. (Although I've learned that Chalet Poudreuse is no longer on the company's books. Maybe for the best, on second thought.)

Despite #basementgate, it gladdened the heart to see a company that works hard to please honored at the Ski Awards – but was it really deserved? I'm staying at Bear Lodge for almost a week with my family and I conclude...probably.
