Inter Miami continue to build their squad with the signing of defender Jordi Alba

Inter Miami have completed the signing of Jordi Alba on the eve of the expected debuts of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets for the ambitious MLS side.

Formed in 2018 and co-owned by David Beckham, the Florida club are swinging for the fences at a time when they have the worst record in the league.

Miami recently finalized the breakthrough signing of seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi, unveiling him to a large crowd at DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday.

The Herons also featured Busquets that night, fresh off the Barcelona great who has completed his own move to South Beach.

The pair are set to make their much-anticipated debut on the bench in Friday's League Cup clash against Mexican side Cruz Azul.

Messi and Busquets have now been joined by another former Barcelona star, Alba linking up with the pair and their former boss Tata Martino in Miami.

The 34-year-old left-back ended his long relationship with the Catalans this summer and joined the lowest-ranking team in the Eastern Conference.

Alba has signed a contract until the 2024 MLS season, with the club holding an option for the 2025 campaign.

Chris Henderson, Chief Football Officer and Sporting Director of Inter, said: "Jordi is an accomplished, dynamic and experienced player who we are delighted to acquire to continue to strengthen our team.

"He has proven for over a decade that he is one of the best full-backs in the sport due to both his defensive solidity and his ability to contribute in attack.

"We know he will help Inter Miami achieve the club's goals this season and beyond."
