Issa Rae's Spider-Woman Looks Super Cool In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

The full trailer for 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' is filled with all sorts of visual goodies. There's a lot to unpack in its short time frame, and part of the fun of it all is picking out all the different Spider-People set to make an appearance in this new film. But one wall-crawler in particular really stands out, and it's none other than the wonderful Spider-Woman (real name Jessica Drew).

In the trailer, Jessica bursts onto the screen atop a flaming motorcycle, crashing through the barrier between universes to battle Vulture in all her Leonardo da Vinci-inspired glory. She's dressed in what can only be described as a starkly crisp red and black motorcycle suit, with triangulated goggles that shine with gold lenses. Her moto boots look like they could totally knock you down with a quick kick, and her afro hair is pulled back with a bright red headband. Her cool factor only goes up - like it's even possible at this point - when it becomes clear that she's also pregnant.

Spider-Woman, who will be played by the talented Issa Rae, has a long history in comics dating back to the 70s, but one of the main things to know about her character is that, in the comics, she has long been described as white. However, the creators of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" chose to portray this version of Spider-Woman as black, and I for one can't imagine anything more empowering than a pregnant superhero is also a person of color. .

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" hits theaters June 2, 2023.
